Exploring Island of Malipano, Davao Philippines
Malipano Island stands a view hundred meters off Samal Island and is the site of the seven executive villas. The island offers three holes of golf and a west facing white sand beach. Staggered along the island’s costline, the constellation of seven houses borrows from Maranao and Samal ethnic influences in both materials and forms. Four Houses (villas 1-4) squat on stilts directly over the water in a nod to traditional seafarer of Samal. The remaining three houses (villas 5-7) are located on rocky spot cropping above the beach. The houses are composed of three octagonal structures containing a reception area and living room, guest suite and dining room around a cantilevered deck. The shape of the roofs is inspired by the traditional Philippine hat, the salacot.
